Scuba Santas December 2010 Newsletter |
 |
|
|
With just 9 days until Scuba Santas 2010 kicks off we've got more divers registered for the event (currently 163) than ever! Well done to everyone
for their splendid efforts, especially with the super cold weather we've been having!
November was a very interesting month with lots going on once again. The biggest change was our new graphics, we hope that you all like them, early next year we should also get the websites updated to match the new design, but as I'm sure you'll agree Scuba Santas has never looked better!
In this newsletter I'm going to remind everyone about the rules for the record, present the event schedule, and give you some additional useful information for the day...
19th December 2010 from 9am, Vobster Quay, Somerset

Rules for the Record |
 |
|
In order to make a world record attempt the following rules/guidelines must be followed:
- All participants must be wearing real Santa costumes (red with white fur trim),
along with fake beards, matching hats, black belts, etc.
- All divers must be qualified and sufficiently equipped to perform the dive in question
- Children are welcome to participate as long as they are also in full Santa attire and are qualified to make the required dive
- Mrs. Santa outfits are also acceptable as long as the attire is just as elaborate as Mr.Santa.
- All participants must be underwater simultaneously and remain so for a minimum period of 10 minutes, all divers must be at a depth of greater than 3 metres at the beginning of the record attempt. Any divers returning to the surface will be discounted from the official count.
- Timing will commence once the last diver has achieved a depth of 3 metres or more and will terminate at 10 minutes from this time.
- Two timekeepers must time the attempt with stopwatches accurate to 0.01 seconds.
- All participants must wear the costume for the entirety of the attempt.
- The attempt must take place at a single location
- The name of the organisation, company or person(s) making the attempt must
be given, along with the date and place.
- Attendance numbers must be accurately confirmed by means of registration into a logbook.
- The two witnesses must confirm the exact and final figure of total participants
- Please ensure that with scuba equipment is safe to use with santa costume worn, e.g. cut holes for dry suit vents, etc
This year the record will be recorded by members of the Trowbridge RNLI who are bringing a small team to help the event run smoothly.
Please ensure at all times that you remain safe. Diving in very cold water and with additional restrictive gear can be very dangerous if not undertaken with safety in mind.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th December... |
 |
|
We hope you are looking forward to Scuba Santas 2010, the 5th year that the event has taken place. Whilst this event is for fun do remember that
we are also raising funds for the RNLI who save many lives at and around the UK coast each and every year.
Sponsorship forms are available on the website, donations can be given on the day (don't forget to leave your details for the raffle),
or via our justgiving page (http://www.justgiving.com/scubasantas2010). If you run your own justgiving page, or collect funds away from
the main collection all we ask is you let us know your final total so we can add this to the funds that Scuba Santas has raised as a total.
If you haven't yet booked your parking space with Vobster Quay I suggest you get in touch as soon as possible as parking spaces in the bottom car park
will be booked out early.
Are you planning on filming the event underwater? We have a journalist that would like to get hold of some underwater footage which
would then be broadcast internationally after the event. Format would ideally be 16-9 DVCam or a MOV file, footage will be edited on site and returned to the diver. If you can help please get in touch ASAP so we can make arrangements!
Lastly, don't forget to leave your details when donating to be entered into the scuba santas raffle with some great prizes! If you know a company interested
in sponsoring the event, or donating prizes don't forget to give them a nudge as we fast approach the event itself.
Looking forward to seeing all you scuba santas again this year, have lots of fun, and be safe!
Merry Christmas, Lloyd.
